Congress and Trinamool stated that the federal government spent 300% more than what was budgeted for the G20.
The government dismissed Trinamool leader Saket Gokhale’s latest accusation on G-20, saying the amount given for G20 was 300% overrun. According to the PIB fact check team, the allegation is deceptive because there has been spending on permanent asset creation and other infrastructure development, which is not confined to hosting the G20 conference.
According to sources, the Trinamool politician alleged on Monday that the recent Union Budget included 990 crore towards hosting the G20 summit. However, the government actually spent Rs. 4,100 crore. “Why shouldn’t the BJP be made to pay this extra 3110 cr when it was clearly non-essential spending purely for Modi’s self-advertisement & personal PR for 2024 elections?” the Trinamool politician said on Twitter.
The Congress also made it a point to criticize PM Modi for overspending on his’show off’. “Prime Minister Modi spent extra money to put up posters ahead of the Lok Sabha election to boost his image.” PM Modi made lavish arrangements for the guests, including silver and gold-plated dinnerware, to cover up the city’s destitute,” the Congress video added.
Delhi was decked out for the two days of the G-20 summit, which closed India’s year as G-20 presidency. The summit obtained complete agreement on the New Delhi leaders’ proclamation, making India’s presidency a success.
On Sunday, the second day of the summit in Delhi, Saket Gokhale said that the summit venue was flooded. “This is the state of infrastructure after spending 4000 crores.” “How much of the G20 fund’s 4000 crore was embezzled by the Modi government?” Gokhake sent out a tweet. According to the PIB, there was no flooding; only minor waterlogging in open areas was observed following heavy rain, which was quickly cleared.
