23 August 2023 ( New Delhi ) : Investigators have detained 12 persons, including current and former students of the varsity, after discovering that the kid was “sexually molested” in the case of the Jadavpur University student who died.
Prior to his fatal fall from the second floor of the main hostel, the deceased first-year student of Jadavpur University was paraded in the corridor there while completely naked, according to the preliminary findings of Kolkata Police.
A senior police official said on Tuesday that investigators had also discovered that the adolescent had been “sexually molested” and that the 12 persons who had been detained, including current and former students of the varsity, “had played active roles” in the entire sequence up to the Nadia teen’s death. Only one of the 13 people detained did not participate actively, according to the police. “There is no doubt that the teen was molested sexually. After being made to undress in room number 70, he was paraded in the hallway while unclothed. We have proof. The 12 people detained were involved in some way in the entire incident.
The officer added that the “group was created to misdirect cops” and that “Kolkata Police investigators have gotten hold of a WhatsApp group created by one of the arrested accused.” He added that a local court on Tuesday granted their request to add Section 4 of the WB Prohibition of Ragging in Educational Institutions Act 2000. “Probe also revealed that the arrested accused had planned to misdirect police so that the ragging part could be concealed,” he said.
He claimed that on Tuesday, police questioned the hostel’s cook to learn more about the events of August 9.Two other university students have been asked to appear in front of the investigators so they can be questioned regarding their investigation. The kid allegedly perished on August 9 at night after falling from the main boys’ hostel next to the campus’ second-floor balcony.
