Banaras Tiwari, Pankaj Tripathi’s father, died at the age of 98. The actor recently admitted that he knew very little about his acting career.
Pandit Banaras Tiwari, the father of actor Pankaj Tripathi, has died. He was 98. The actor has returned from Uttarakhand, where he was filming, to his village in Belsand, Bihar. His father and mother stayed there, while Pankaj and his wife and daughter lived in Mumbai.
“It is with a heavy heart to confirm that Pankaj Tripathi’s father, Pandit Banaras Tiwari, is no longer with us,” the family said in an official statement. He lived a healthy 99-year life. His final rites will be administered today among his close family members. Pankaj Tripathi is on his way to his Gopalganj village.”
Pankaj has previously spoken to HT about his father and how he wished for him to become a doctor. “My father desired that I become a doctor.” People in my hometown – a village in Gopalganj, North Bihar — only know two professions: engineer or doctor. I am the farmer’s son. “My village is [so far] into the interior that there are still no well-built roads there,” he explained in 2018.
He also stated that his family is supportive of his acting ambitions. “They had no unfulfilled dreams that they would have liked me to fulfill.” Their only concern was that I would be able to earn rozi-roti. I told them that if I moved to Delhi (Pankaj is a National School of Drama alumnus), I would be able to acquire a government job. The problem with middle-class folks is that sarkaari jobs are rarely available. So my father agreed.”
In an earlier interview with Mashable, the actor revealed that his father is unaware of his acting career. “He is not overly proud of my accomplishments,” he remarked. My father has no idea what I do in the film industry. He has yet to see how a movie theater appears from the inside. He sees my work if someone shows it to him on their computer or on the newly built television at my house.”
