21 August 2023 (New Delhi) : The girl claimed she was repeatedly raped by the officer between 2020 and 2021, and that his wife forced her to abort the pregnancy by giving her abortion pills. The Delhi Police then arrested the officer and his wife on charges of rape and under various provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has ordered the suspension of an officer in the Women and Child Department who has been accused of raping his friend’s minor daughter. Kejriwal has also asked the Chief Secretary to submit a report on the matter by 5 pm on Monday.
The police claimed that they visited the officer’s home on Monday morning for routine questioning. They claimed that the cop has not yet been detained or arrested. S S Kalsi, the deputy commissioner of police for the north, stated, “We have yet to record the minor’s statement to the magistrate. She is being monitored (in the hospital), and we have been informed that she is experiencing trauma. Investigation is ongoing, and appropriate action will be taken.
The police claim that the accused and the girl’s parents, who are also government employees, met more than three years ago. The accused cop allegedly offered to take her to his house and take care of her when she lost her father in October 2020. Since they were pals, her mother approved, according to the police.
Swati Maliwal, the head of the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW), claimed she questioned the police about the officer’s continued absence from the scene. “A government official…who worked for a long time at the Women and Child Development Department, has been accused of raping a 16-year-old minor girl and then trying to have the pregnancy terminated with his wife. We have informed Delhi Police as to why he has not yet been detained.
