7 August 2023 ( New Delhi ) : Days after the Supreme Court stayed his conviction in a 2019 defamation case over his ‘Modi surname’ remark, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday arrived at Parliament after his parliamentary membership was restored. In a 2019 criminal defamation case by the Supreme Court Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s parliamentary membership has been restored, days after his conviction was stayed. A notification from the Lok Sabha Secretariat said that Rahul Gandhi’s disqualification as a Lok Sabha MP has been set aside.
Rahul Gandhi has once again returned to Parliament as an MP, months after being convicted in the Modi surname case. The Congress leader was disqualified from the lower house in March 2023 after he was sentenced to two years in jail by a Gujarat court in the case. Hours after Rahul Gandhi was reinstated as a Member of Parliament, the senior Congress leader changed his bio on social media accounts.
