5 August 2023 ( New Delhi) : In Archery, the Indian women’s team created history when the trio of V. Jyoti Surekha, Aditi Swami and Preneet Kaur won their maiden gold medal at the World Archery Championships in Berlin on 4 August 2023.In the gold medal final, the three Indian players defeated the Mexican team of Daphne Quintero, Ana Sofa Hernandez Zion and Andrea Becerra 235-229. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated the Indian women’s compound team on winning the first gold medal for India in Berlin. It is a proud moment for India, PM Narendra Modi said in a tweet. His hard work and dedication has resulted in this excellent result, he said.
The Indian women’s compound team of Jyoti Surekha Vennam, Aditi Swami and Preneet Kaur scripted history by winning the gold medal after defeating Mexico in the final of the World Archery Championships in Berlin on Friday.The Indian archery team has won gold for the first time since its debut in 1981 at the World Archery Championships. However, as per reports, India has lost in the finals of the World Archery Championships four times in the recurve category and five times in the non-Olympic compound discipline.
