26 September 2023 ( New Delhi ) : On social media, there are pictures of two Manipuri students who have been missing since July 6. The images appear to be from before and after their deaths.
Two armed guys can be seen standing behind the two students in one of the photographs, which shows them sitting on a grassy area. The bodies of the two students are visible in another image that is going around on social media.
The pupils were identified as Phijam Hemjit, 20, and Hijam Linthoingambi, 17. Following the publication of the images online, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh gave the populace an assurance that all those responsible for the students’ kidnapping and murder will face prompt and decisive action.
The pictures of two students, Phijam Hemjit, 20, and Hijam Linthoingambi, 17, who have been missing since July 2023, have surfaced on social media, the state administration has learned, according to a statement from the Chief Minister’s secretariat.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has already been given the case.
“State police are actively looking into the case in conjunction with the national security organizations to learn the details of their disappearance and to find out who killed the two students. The search effort to find the offenders has also been launched by the security forces, according to the statement.
“In reaction to this tragic scenario, the government guarantees the populace that all individuals responsible for the kidnapping and murder of Phijam Hemjit and Hijam Linthoingambi would face prompt and decisive action. The administration is devoted to seeing that justice is served and would punish anyone found guilty of this horrible act severely, it was added.
According to the Chief Minister’s secretariat, the administration has advised the populace to maintain caution and allow the police handle the probe.
Since May 3, when a ‘Tribal Solidarity March’ was organized in the hill districts to protest against the Meitei community’s desire for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status, more than 150 people have died and more than 3,000 have been injured as a result of racial violence.
In addition to the Manipur Police, some 40,000 central security forces were sent in to quell the unrest and restore order in the state.
After more than four months, mobile internet services have resumed, according to a statement from the state government on Saturday. Chief Minister Singh claimed that the change resulted from the situation’s improvement.
