16 September 2023 ( New Delhi ) : Asia Cup Super 4 highlights between India and Bangladesh: With an aim of 266, Shubman Gill had been the anchor for India, but he had a difficult time finding a capable partner at the other end. The opener, who reached his fifth ODI century, nearly single-handedly led India’s pursuit before he was bowled out on 121 from 133. Only KL Rahul had been able to keep Gill in the middle for any length of time. Before Rahul was run out by Mahedi Hasan, the partnership scored 57 runs for the third wicket. Following that, Suryakumar Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja failed to pose a significant threat to the scoring and Gill finished his innings with Axar Patel by his side. By scoring 42 points off of 34 balls, Axar then offered India some hope. When Mohammed Shami was run out on the second last ball of the final over of the Indian innings, India’s loss was all but assured and the game was over.

After a top-order collapse, Bangladesh rode on significant contributions from Shakib Al Hasan (80) and Towhid Hridoy (54), who helped the team reach a respectable score of 265/8 in Colombo after Indian skipper Rohit Sharma decided to bowl. The most effective of all Indian bowlers, Shardul Thakur (3/66) was also the most expensive as Mohammed Shami (2/32), Prasidh Krishna (1/43), Axar Patel (1/47), and Ravindra Jadeja (1/53) all contributed to the innings’ wickets. Shami quickly grabbed the first wicket for India, and they applied pressure to Bangladesh for the first few overs before Shakib and Hridoy led the Bangladeshi recovery. Although Bangladesh was eliminated from the competition and India advanced to the final, the game was a deadlock until the final two balls.
