On Sunday night in the Balkum area of Maharashtra’s Thane district, an elevator crashed, leaving six construction workers dead and one injured.
The building is close to Godhbunder Road, according to Yasin Tadvi, head of Thane Municipal Corporation’s (TMC) disaster management unit, according to news agency PTI.
Heavy rain derails in city
After Friday’s intense downpours, Mumbai gets milder rain on Saturday. With some reports of tree falls and short circuits, the city averaged 1.24mm of rain per day. For the upcoming days, the rain is anticipated to abate, but by September 14, severe rains may resume.
Mumbai: The city had lighter rain on Saturday between 8:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), which recorded 3.8mm in Colaba and 1.6mm in Santacruz. This comes after two days of deluge-like conditions.
The city of Mumbai experienced an average rainfall of 1.24mm, while the eastern and western suburbs each received 6.21mm and 7.15mm, respectively, according to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). In addition, the city received reports of three short circuits and three tree fall occurrences.
The city was under “orange alert” status for the previous 24 hours till 8:30am on Saturday. IMD station in Santacruz recorded 76mm of rain, compared to 53mm in the city. This fell short of the over 110mm that the IMD had predicted for the city.
The ‘green’ advisory for Sunday indicates moderate precipitation, and it is in effect for Mumbai and Palghar. With heavy rain forecast in remote areas, Thane is still on yellow alert. All three districts are on green alert beginning on Sunday and lasting through Wednesday.
Mahesh Palawat, vice president of Skymet Weather, stated that the rain will stop for the upcoming few days. There is a risk of heavy rain on September 14. The monsoon is anticipated to last through the third week of September.
