Restaurants and shopping centers in the New Delhi district will stay closed. Banks are closed, but ATMs are open.

Along with other G20 leaders, US President Joe Biden, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese will land in India on Thursday, one day before the summit on September 9 and 10. Starting on Friday, all schools, universities, and offices will be closed. In anticipation of the VIP movement, which will begin on Friday when the delegates arrive, Delhi Police has added some additional limitations in the nation’s capital. However, the police made it clear that it is not like a lockdown where residents of Delhi will not be permitted anywhere near the streets. Despite the area-specific restrictions that have been put in place, daily life will continue as usual.

What is open and what is closed in New Delhi during the G20 summit? What you should know

  1. All offices, schools, and universities will be closed. The entire New Delhi district will be closed, thus there will not be any restaurants, malls, etc. Hotels and tourist attractions will not reopen.
  2. From Friday through Sunday, all commercial activity would be prohibited in the New Delhi Municipal Corporation. Pragati Maidan will host the G20 gathering. Activities there and nearby will therefore be limited. Connaught Place, the Cantonment area, and other regions are included in the New Delhi district, which is at the city’s center.
  3. What is open: In the NDMC region as well as in Delhi, pharmacies, grocery stores, milk stands, and vegetable and fruit shops will continue to be open. Yes, ATMs will work as well.
  4. Transportation: Commercial cars and buses will be permitted to travel on the Ring Road and the wider road system that leads to Delhi’s borders.
  5. Vehicle restrictions in the following regions begin tonight. From September 7 at midnight to September 10 at 11:59 p.m., vehicles, including goods trucks, commercial vehicles, interstate buses, and local city buses, would not be permitted to operate on Mathura Road (beyond Ashram Chowk), Bhairon Road, Purana Quila Road, or inside the Pragati Maidan Tunnel.
  6. Starting on Saturday at 5 a.m., there will not be any taxi service in the New Delhi district. The police will not stop vehicles carrying lawful residents or tourists with reservations at hotels. So, on Saturday or Sunday, will you be able to take a taxi to the New Delhi airport?
  7. Controlled Zone, Regulated Zone: From 5 a.m. on September 8 until 11:59 p.m. on September 10, the New Delhi District shall be referred to as “Controlled Zone-I.” During the same time frame, the region inside the Ring Road (Mahatma Gandhi Marg) will be regarded as a “Regulated Zone”.
  8. Metro service: On Saturday and Sunday, only the Supreme Court metro station on the blue line will be closed. On Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, Metro services will begin early at 4am.
  9. Online meal delivery will not be available in the NDMC zone. There will be no Swiggy, Zomato, Flipkart, or Amazon deliveries of other things online in the NDMC region. Drug delivery is anticipated.
  10. Why should Gurugram workplaces allow remote work? On September 8, traffic on NH-48 will be controlled, thus all offices have been instructed to instruct their workers to work from home that day.
