Goa CM Declares Vikky Kaushal’s ‘Chhaava’ Tax-Free
After being declared tax-free in Madhya Pradesh, Vikky Kaushal’s historical film ‘Chhaava’ has now received tax exemption in Goa as well. The announcement was made by Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Wednesday evening, coinciding with the 395th birth anniversary of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. CM Sawant took to social media platform X to share the news, emphasizing the historical and cultural significance of the film.
Madhya Pradesh and Goa Support ‘Chhaava’
Before Goa, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav had already granted tax exemption to ‘Chhaava’ in his state. The film, which portrays the life and sacrifices of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, has been recognized for its depiction of bravery and patriotism.

CM Sawant’s Statement on ‘Chhaava’
Expressing his support for the film, CM Pramod Sawant stated, “I am pleased to announce that ‘Chhaava,’ a film showcasing the life and sacrifices of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, will be tax-free in Goa. The movie highlights his valor and unwavering dedication towards ‘Dev, Desh, and Dharma’ while fighting against the Mughals and Portuguese.”
The Goa government believes that the film will inspire audiences by shedding light on an important chapter of Indian history.
Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis Reacts
Meanwhile, Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis welcomed the initiative to make ‘Chhaava’ tax-free. He lauded the film’s historical accuracy and the positive reception it has received from audiences.
“I am delighted that a remarkable film on Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj’s life has been made. Though I haven’t watched it yet, the feedback I have received indicates that it stays true to history,” said Fadnavis.
He further mentioned that Maharashtra had already abolished entertainment tax in 2017, and the state government would explore ways to ensure the film reaches a larger audience.

‘Chhaava’ Approaching ₹200 Crore Milestone
‘Chhaava’ has been performing exceptionally well at the box office. Within just three days of its release, the film crossed the ₹100 crore mark. As of now, the film has amassed ₹197.75 crore and is expected to enter the ₹200 crore club soon.
Directed by Laxman Utekar, the movie stars Vikky Kaushal as Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, with Rashmika Mandanna playing Yesubai Bhosale. Akshaye Khanna portrays Aurangzeb, Diana Penty essays the role of Jinat-un-Nissa Begum, while Divya Dutta plays Soyarabai. Additionally, Vineet Kumar Singh plays Kavi Kalash, and Ashutosh Rana takes on the role of Hambirrao Mohite.
