The state administration settled to arrange a meeting to consider the subject of extending reservation to relatives of Marathas who hold certificates of Sej Soyare or Kunbi caste, said to state minister Chhagan Bhujbal.
Eknath Shinde, the chief minister of Maharashtra, made his position on OBC and Maratha reservations clear on Saturday. According to him, the state management will make sure that social unrest associated with caste does not become widespread. Shinde extended gratitude to Laxman Hake, an OBC activist, and others for breaking their unbroken fast.
CM Eknath Shinde declared, “We will ensure that caste tension does not spread in the society,” while meeting reporters in Nashik. On Friday, Shinde met with the leaders of OBC. In this meeting, he announced that an all-party meeting will be held starting on June 27 during the first week of the monsoon session. The media was told by Shinde that “there was a good discussion on this issue yesterday.”
State minister Chhagan Bhujbal remarked, “The state government decided to call a meeting to discuss the issue of granting reservation to relatives of Marathas who hold Sej Soyare or Kunbi caste certificates.” The state administration created a draft notification in January granting Sej Soyare Kunbi status. The Kunbi community is said to be a member of an OBC group.
Manoj Jarane, an activist, has insisted that Marathas be granted quotas under the OBC category. However, OBC leaders are calling for the government’s draft notification to be removed.
