Arabic for “fort,” Hisar was built in 1354 AD by Sultan Mohammad Firoz Shah of the Tughlaq dynasty. No one has ever found this fort simple to conquer. 4 large warriors compete to raise their flag atop the fort in this election. The family of former deputy prime minister Chaudhary Devi Lal comprises three of them.
Ranjit Singh Chautala, the state energy minister and son of Devi Lal, is a BJP member and has a role in this inheritance dispute. Sunaina Chautala is the wife of Ravi Chautala, son of another brother Pratap from Indian National Lok Dal (INLD), and Naina Chautala is the wife of Ajay, the son of former CM Om Prakash Chautala from the Jannayak Janata Party (JJP). There is a sister-in-law relationship between Sunaina and Naina. Thus, the uncle and father-in-law have two daughters-in-law; however, the Chautala family is not the only ones engaged in the conflict. The key race is between former Union Minister Jai Prakash, competing on the Congress platform, and BJP’s Ranjit Chautala. It’s Jai Prakash’s eighth time on the field. Won three times and lost four.
The Jat community includes all four candidates running for the seat dominated by them. All of the four lives outside of Hisar. But the maternal house of Naina and Sunaina is located only in the Hisar region. This time, nor the BJP nor the JJP nor the INLD have an easy ride. The BJP gained this seat for the first time in 2019 thanks to the efforts of former IAS officer Brijendra Singh, who also joined the Congress with the support of his influential father, former minister Birendra Singh, after gaining by over six lakh votes. Dal Gali did not receive the ticket, as Brijendra had hoped. It is uncertain if he remains neutral or assists Jai Prakash in getting across the boat.
In the BJP, Kuldeep Bishnoi serves a similar role to Brijendra. He has been an MP for the Haryana Janhit Congress, as has his father, the former chief minister Bhajan Lal. Later, Kuldeep joined the BJP. Though there were candidates this time around for the ticket, things did not work out. The MLAs’ mutiny is the cause of the JJP’s present issue. While some are singing songs by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, others are forming ties with the Congress. In the Hisar Lok Sabha seat, INLD does not have a single MLA.
The Chautala family had a positive impact on this seat up until 2014. Following that, the entire family joined INLD. Dushyant Chautala left INLD on December 9, 2018, and formed JJP. The only member of the Chautala family who travels from Hisar to the parliament is Dushyant. It was defeat time for Om Prakash Chautala, Ajay Singh Chautala, and Ranjit Singh Chautala.
