According to the IMD, heatwave conditions are expected in isolated regions of West Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar on May 16, 2024.

On Tuesday, the India Meteorological Department issued an orange signal for two of Kerala’s 14 districts due to severe rains. Pathanamthitta and Idukki districts have been placed under orange alert status. Apart from that, the weather department issued a yellow alert in eight districts of the southern state on Tuesday.

Thunderstorms with moderate rainfall and gusty winds were also expected by the IMD in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Idukki, Palakkad, Malappuram, and Wayanad.

A rough sea signal has been issued for the day for the coasts of Kerala and south Tamil Nadu by the Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA). It advised coastal residents and fishermen to be cautious in light of the choppy seas and to stay away from the beach.

In addition, Tuesday’s minimum temperature in the nation’s capital was 23.9 degrees Celsius, which is a degree or two below the season’s normal. Clear skies were forecast for the day by the weather service. It is anticipated that the highest temperature would ultimately hover around 41 degrees Celsius.

On May 14, 2024, Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry, and Karaikal are expected to see isolated bouts of heavy to very heavy rainfall (115.5–204.5 mm), according to the weather service.

On May 14, 2024, a hailstorm is probable in isolated pockets of West Madhya Pradesh and Marathwada, including squalls (50-60 kmph), according to the weather agency.

On Monday, unseasonal rainfall and dust storms were reported over Gujarat and Mumbai. The meteorological service has expected mild rains and thunderstorms in many Gujarat districts during the next three days. The state agriculture department has issued an alert urging farmers to take precautions to protect their crops.

Rains and strong winds slammed Mumbai and its surrounding metropolitan areas on Monday, affecting metro and local train services. Metro services were suspended between Aarey and Andheri East metro stations, while suburban services on the Central Railway were disrupted after an overhead equipment pole between Thane and Mulund stations bent due to high winds. Flight operations at Mumbai’s Chhattrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport were temporarily halted owing to poor visibility.
