Elon Musk was expected to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his visit to India on April 21 and 22.
Elon Musk, Tesla’s CEO, has postponed two-day trip to India, where he was planned to reveal his plans to enter the Indian market. Elon Musk was expected to see Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his visit to India on April 21 and 22.
Elon Musk stated in a post on X that his “very heavy Tesla obligations” led him to postpone his trip to India.
“Unfortunately, very heavy Tesla obligations require that the visit to India be delayed, but I do very much look forward to visiting later this year,” the CEO of SpaceX said in a tweet.
Musk will likely participate in a key conference call in the United States on April 23 to answer questions regarding Tesla’s first quarter performance.
Last week, Musk wrote on X that he’d be “looking forward” meeting PM Modi.
Musk, who operates SpaceX, was expected to announce a $2-3 billion investment in a facility for entry-level vehicles as Tesla Inc. made its long-awaited debut in the Indian market. Recently, the government revealed a proposal which lower substantial taxes on imported cars offered businesses invested locally.
It was also believed that a powerful businessman will reveal plans to launch Starlink, a satellite network which provides high-speed surfing.
During his visit, Musk, the fourth richest man in the world was scheduled to meet with Indian space tech entrepreneurs. According to reports, the government had invited Digantara, Piersight, Dhruva Space, Skyroot Aerospace, and others to have a discussion with the CEO of SpaceX in New Delhi.
Twice prior to that, in 2015 when visiting a Tesla facility and again in 2023 during his state visit to the US, Prime Minister Modi held a conversation with Elon Musk. PM Modi mentioned in a recent interview that Musk endorsed India.
