Clashes occurred in the Shaktipur region on Wednesday as a group led a Ram Navami procession, injuring numerous people. Videos from the neighborhood showed people hurling stones at the procession from their rooftops.
Many people were injured as violence broke out during a Ram Navami parade on Wednesday in the Murshidabad district of West Bengal. During the Hindu holiday, a group was leading a parade in the Shaktipur region when the tragedy occurred.
After that, the region was under Section 144 prohibitory orders.
People on their rooftops threw stones at the procession, according to videos from the region.
To disperse the mob, the police used lathicharge and tear gas. The police also stated that the situation had been stabilized and that additional personnel had been dispatched to the area.
Injured individuals were transported to Murshidabad Medical College and Hospital in Behrampore.
Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, the Berhampore MP and Congress leader, scheduled a visit to the region on Wednesday evening.
“I came to see the folks hurt in the Malda conflict. However, BJP workers held a protest in the hospital, claiming that Hindus are being attacked and demanding an answer from me. Those protesting should question those who need to respond,” he stated.
“Protests are started according to with a well-defined plan. The BJP protest confirms this. I have spoken with the Election Commission. Additional forces have been dispatched to Shaktipur, and the SP is on the scene. “I am constantly in contact with the election commission,” the Congress leader stated.
The event occurred days after Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee warned of unrest on Ram Navami in Murshidabad. Her words came after the Election Commission removed Murshidabad’s Deputy Inspector General of Police due to district violence and the officer’s alleged “lack of supervision”.
“Even today, the DIG of Murshidabad was changed solely on the basis of BJP directives. The Election Commission will now bear responsibility for any unrest in Murshidabad and Malda. The BJP sought to replace police officials in order to incite rioting and bloodshed. “If there is even one riot, the ECI will be held responsible because they are in charge of law and order here,” Mamata Banerjee stated on Monday.
On Wednesday, Mamata Banerjee said that efforts were being made to promote violence in the state on the occasion of Ram Navami.
Last year’s Ram Navami celebrations in Bengal were also marred by violence, resulting in a major clash between the BJP and the Trinamool Congress.”They will start protesting today.
There is a danger of violence. And they will win [the election] by riots and vote looting,” Mamata Banerjee claimed during an election rally.
