“Terrorists started fire on a non-local named Amritpal Singh, an Amritsar resident, in Shaheed Gunj Srinagar, who died as a result of his injuries. Another person has been severely hurt and is being transported for medical treatment. The area has been cordoned-off. More information will be provided later,” the Kashmir Zone Police tweeted on X.
Unknown investigators told PTI that Singh was shot at point blank range with an AK rifle at 7 p.m.
They said Singh died on the scene, while another non-local worker, Rohit (25), was shot in the abdomen. He is also from Amritsar and is currently being treated at the city’s SMHS hospital.
Officials of the National Conference and the People’s Democratic Party condemned the terrorist attack on Punjab civilians.
“JKNC President Dr Farooq Abdullah and VP @OmarAbdullah have been shocked and disgusted by the inhumane crime that killed Amrit Pal Singh in Shala Kadal, Srinagar. The party expressed its profound condolences to his family in a social media statement.
